Developing a new design language for the streaming platform
A Color Bright was asked to redesign the SoundCloud UI from scratch, starting with the smallest, but most important elements: tracks and playlist. We then worked our way from there to create a modern and consistent experience core to the brand loved by independent creators.
I helped to create a full fledged design system and guide the design and engineering teams to implement the new design language by providing full reference views for the mobile apps. We furthermore showcased how the system would scale to tablet sizes and applied a reskin to the current desktop experience to visually align it with the rest.
Project Goals
- Create clearer distinction between the main content types: songs, albums and playlists1
- Build a scalable design system which remains true to SoundCloud elements and caters to the DIY culture2
- Provide full reference views for the mobile apps and guide the engineering teams through implementation3
- Apply a "quick win" desktop reskin to the web experience to align it with the new visual language4
